A Challenge To Men

A Woman's Question
by Lena Lathrop

Do you know you have asked for the costliest thing,

Ever made by the Hand above?

A woman's heart and a woman's life,

And a woman's wonderful love.

Do you know you have asked for this priceless thing,

As a child might ask for a toy?

Demanding what others have died to win,

With the reckless dash of a boy.

You have written my lesson of duty out,

Manlike, you have questioned me.

Now stand at the bars of my woman's soul,

Until I have questioned thee.

You require that your mutton shall always be hot,

Your socks and your shirts be whole;

I require that your heart be as true as Yah's stars,

And as pure as His heaven, your soul.

You require a cook for your mutton and beef,

I require a far greater thing.

A seamstress you're wanting for socks and shirts,

I look for a man and a king.

A king for the beautiful realm called Home,

And a man that his Maker Yah, could,

Look upon just as He did at the first,

And say, 'it is very good'.

I am fair and young but the rose may fade,

From this soft young cheek one day;

Will you love me amid the falling leaves,

As you did 'mong the blossoms of May?

Is your heart an ocean, strong and true,

I may launch my all on its tide?

A loving woman finds heaven or hell,

On the day she is made a bride.

I require all things that are grand and free,

All things that a man should be;

If you give this all, I would stake my life,

To be all you demand of me.

If you cannot be this, a laundress and cook,

You can hire and little to pay;

But a woman's heart and a woman's life

Are not to be won that way.

I found this poem in the book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by Joshua Harris.He mentions that it should show us the costliness and pricelessness of a woman's love.

Dresses, Skirts And Sewing

The subject matter may seem unusual for a male to talk about.A couple of weeks ago I was reading a blog(it's mostly about her sewing) and in a posting she said "I think I would find it quite amusing if any gentleman was reading a sewing blog".The quote got me thinking about my view of sewing and feminine clothing.

In the past I've watched shows like Little House on the Prairie and read books(with pictures) on the Amish and pioneer times.Though I enjoyed seeing the females wearing dresses,it wasn't something I thought too much about.I also liked female characters who were tomboys and wore jeans.

My view began to change when I discovered the YLCF last October.From there I found blogs and websites that discussed modesty,feminine clothing and other topics.One of the early blogs I found was http://maidensofworth.org/ Later on,I found some other blogs of people who make their own clothing for reenacting.Between Anna and Miriam's old-fashioned dresses and the Jane Austen movies,I came to appreciate females wearing dresses and skirts.It's funny how I now go outside and notice all the pants that are being worn.

Though males won't be interested in the techiques of sewing,I think it's important for them to appreciate the clothing made.Than they will prefer to see females wearing feminine clothing.

A Couple of Quotes

"Learn to see (your husband) through new eyes.True love has three eyes.One eye is dim, dim to his faults.A second eye sees him as the world does.This is an important perspective.Sometimes you must help him see the way the world sees him... A third eye sees him as no one else sees him, appreciates him as no one else appreciates him.Keep this eye sharply focused and you will observe many things to appreciate.Every wonderful wife has a third eye."

"If you treat him like a king, he'll treat you like a queen."

Helen Andelin, Fascinating Womanhood, pg 62 and pg 99.

The third eye can also be used by a husband when looking at his wife.

How I Got Here

It started about two years ago when I came across The Walton's tv show.I enjoyed the era (it took place in 1930's Virginia) and the going ons of the large family(there were seven children).I bought the season sets as they came out and found several websites on the show.Through one of the websites I found a small forum where fans could discuss the show or talk about everyday events.

On the forum some of us would post a weekly quote.Last October,while using google to find Anne of Green Gable quotes,I found The Anne part of Gretchen's potpourri section.After seeing some pictures of Gretchen I realized that I had been here before.Earlier in the year I had googled red hair and had found her site.I had read the quotes on red hair and freckles;I also read the quotes on chocolate.When I finished,I went on to other sites and forgot about this one.

When I scrolled down to the bottom I noticed the YLCF banner.I clicked on it and went to their main page.I read some of the current articles and looked at some of the archived ones.Though I had heard of blogs before,this was the first time I had read one.From people's comments I was able to find other blogs.And from links on their pages I found other blogs and websites.I read about courtship,biblical marriage modesty and other topics.I also learned about Jane Austen.

I wondered why I noticed the YLCF this time.Maybe at this point I was ready for it.It has given me a new direction and many things to think about.I now have to figure out where this path will lead me.Coming up I will write about what I have been learning from my blog reading.
